Analyzing the inter-dependence and interactions of different key natural resources, viz., water, land and forests.

Analyzing the impacts of various policies and programs of governments, and national and international institutional and policy regimes on natural resource use and management and society at large.

Analyzing the impact of formal and informal markets on productivity of resource use and access equity.

Analyzing formal institutional and administrative structures and markets, and search for appropriate institutional arrangements for sustainable management of the resources.

Policy Advocacy:
Undertakes policy advocacy for sustainable natural resource management systems that are people centered and based on principles of equity productivity and resource sustainability through the help of targeted policy briefs,popular media, existing knowledge exchange networks and participation in policy dialogue forums.

Development of Tools & Techniques:
Develops tools and techniques for disseminating knowledge and information about approaches and strategies for management of natural resources and their services, and NR based livelihood enhancement.

Dissemination:
Disseminates knowledge accrued from research studies undertaken, through high quality in-house publications and peer reviewed journals articles.

Research:
Undertakes research on physical, social, economic, institutional, legal and policy aspects of natural resources and their linkages with environment and livelihoods, of practical relevance.

Consultancy:
Undertakes consultancy projects, on the above mentioned subjects for national and state governments, national and international donors and non-governmental organizations and private institutions concerned with natural resource issues.

Training:
Undertakes training programmes for senior officials and policy makers in government organizations, private agencies and NGOs.

Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems:
Offers specialized services in remote sensing and GIS applications, for resource mapping, resource evaluation, diagnostic studies and resource planning.
